The trailer for the teaser was shown at CinemaCon on April 27th, 2022, where the title was also announced. The trailer is now online, and this sequel hit theaters in December 2022.
In February 2022 Steve Asbell, President of 20th Century Studios, teased that the sequel was “going to shock people” and added: “You’re not ready for the things Cameron is up to.”
Cameron admitted during CinemaCon that Cameron was “hard at work on the final touches to his film”. He’s spoken before about the reasons behind his decision to shoot much of the film underwater was one of the reasons why the film took time to get it out.
“It is a bit crazy and the whole process is a bit erratic,” Cameron admitted to EW about his plans for the follow-up. “I say that even if Avatar were not making so much cash, we wouldn’t make this decision, because it’s a bit crazy.”
If anyone can achieve this feat the film is Cameron director, who was who is responsible for two of the three most-grossing films ever ( Avatar and Titanic). Some might question whether anyone would like Avatar 2. today, but you shouldn’t place a bet on the filmmaker.
The returning actress Zoe Saldana has been teasing that the film will be worth the wait, as she gave a strong response to only two minutes.
“I get emotional when I talk about it, because I got to watch only 20 minutes of the second installment right at the end of last year. I was stunned. I was moved to tears,” she enthused.
“I believe you need to be ready for the challenge however, it will be an experience that you’ll never forget.”
As we touch every piece of wood that surrounds us it appears as if the sequel will finally arrive in theaters in the month of December 2022.
If the sequel arrives this year, it’ll begin the series of sequels each next one until Avatar five in the month of December 2028. However, let’s not get too fast and focus only on the sequel to Avatar for the moment.
This is everything you need to know about the delayed sequel of the blockbuster by James Cameron.
Avatar 2 release date: When will Avatar The Way of Water be released in cinemas?
To make a long story in half, Avatar 2 is set to release on 16 December 2022 after being delayed from December 2021 because of the ongoing health crisis in the world.
The sequel began filming in the year 2017, however, given the film’s mixture of live-action as well as motion-capture elements, it’s an issue that it’s been delayed for some time. In September of 2020, Cameron declared they were the film was “100 percent finished” with Avatar 2. The sequel was “100% complete” and approximately 95% complete on Avatar 3.
As we mentioned earlier, Cameron said in April 2022 that he was making the “final finishing touches” for the film, and all is in place to release the film in December. FINALLY.
Since we’ve got three more movies coming, Cameron has been working on them all in the past few years. On December 20, 2021, he announced that he’d already completed some scenes for Avatar 4. due to the youthful actors.
“Anything that needed to be completed by a specific actor we put every scene in 2/3 with a small amount of 4,” he said to Variety.
“I was forced to take at the kids out. They’re allowed to reach the age of six years at the end of the tale on the 25th page of film 4.. Therefore, I had everything prior to that, and all afterward, we’ll take care of later.”
Avatar 2 Why did it take so much time?
If you’re looking for the complete details of the sequel’s long and drawn-out trip to screen, here’s the full story. In retrospect, It seems absurd to think that Avatar 2was scheduled to release at the end of December in 2014 while Avatar 3 was scheduled for release in December of 2015.
After a series of delays, filming was scheduled to begin in Avatar 2 in April of 2016, however, April was a blur and filming did not begin. The following year, in January it was declared that the motion-capture component of the film was to begin in August 2017 but it actually started in September.
The announcement of the 4th Avatar film forced all of them back, and they have moved back yet again and with Avatar 2, scheduled for release in the month of December in 2017 (and the remaining ones scheduled for 2018 and 2019, presumably). James Cameron blamed the “very complicated” writing process for the delay.
In January 2017, the next time, Avatar 2 was again delayed The reason for this was that it was scary following Star Wars: The Last Jedi was moved from May to 2017.
The sequel was scheduled for release in December 2020 until Disney moved it to the month of December 2021 following the acquisition of Fox and this brings us to the most recent delay.
In all of it, Cameron has been totally relaxed about a delay or not. “It was seven years ago that there was a gap between The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day, seven years in between Alien as well as Alien,” he said.
Avatar 2 Trailers: When will the Avatar The Way of Water trailer go live?
The teaser trailer was shown during CinemaCon and will play only in cinemas in conjunction with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness which will be released this Friday, May 5, in the UK and May 6 in the US.
If you aren’t able to see that on television The trailer will be made available on the internet a week later. An exact date hasn’t yet been established, but it could happen anytime during the week beginning the 9th of May on a Monday.

The trailer was the subject of much acclaim at CinemaCon and, according to the Deadline, features new “flying fish-like creatures” the Na’vi talking with a whale, and a civil war between Na’vi.
Avatar Way of Water
As I mentioned earlier, Avatar 2 is now officially titled The Way of Water. The Way of Water.
In November of 2018, the BBC revealed that the planned four Avatar sequels will be titled Avatar: The Way of Water, Avatar: The Seed Bearer, Avatar The Tulkun Rider, and Avatar the Quest for Eywa.
Cameron later confirmed that these Cameron later confirmed that they are possible titles and given that the first film proved to be correct maybe these are the names of the subsequent three movies as well.
Avatar 2 cast: Who’s returning to Avatar The Way of Water?
The main cast in the film Avatar is all signed on to contracts, which means Cameron’s stars will return to join the show when it hits.
Zoe Saldana will reprise the Na’vi princess Neytiri as well as Sam Worthington also returning as Na’vi-turned-human Jake Sully.
Stephen Lang is back as the dead Colonel Miles Quaritch He’s set to be the main antagonist in the four films. He also said that he’ll in a position to “really travel to the city and study the character’s character in greater detail” during the follow-up (via The National).
James Cameron explained: “I’m not going to describe exactly how we’re going to bring James Cameron back, but this is a science-fiction story in the end.”
The actor hasn’t given any details about his surprise return, though he’s stated that the sequel will be worth the long waiting. “I believe that [fans] will be amazed and enthralled. It’s true that there are some who are going to be in love with the world around them,” the singer told the magazine.
The sci-fi god Sigourney Weaver is set to be returning as a completely different character to say: “Having completed all four of the Avatar screenplay believe that they’re amazing and definitely worth the waiting.”
Kate Winslet is playing the character the role of Ronal in all of the Avatar sequels, which marks her James Cameron’s first film collaboration since 1997’s blockbuster Titanic.
CCH Pounder will also reprise her role as Neytiri’s mother Mo’at. Matt Gerald is back as Corporal Lyle Wainfleet and Edie Falco ( The Sopranos, Nurse Jackie) is playing the new character of General Ardmore.
This sequel is set to introduce a brand new Na’vi clan known as the Metkayina. It is led by Fear the Walking Dead‘s Cliff Curtis as Tonowari. In the film, Winslet’s character Ronal is also a part of the Metkayina family, as are Bailey Bass’ Reya as well as Duane Evans Jr.’s Rotxo.
Jake Neytiri and Jake Neytiri have children of Na’vi in the sequel as well as Jamie Flatters’ Neteyam, Britain Dalton’s Lo’ak, and Trinity Bliss’s Tuktirey. They also adopted a human-child Miles Socorro, aka Spider who plays Jack Champion.
This content comes from Instagram. It’s possible to locate the same content in a different format or be able to locate more details on their website.
“Jake was able to get him into jail, however, Neytiri always believed that he was one of the men who destroyed her family home and also killed her father of her,” producer Jon Landau said to Empire. “So there are all of these dynamics playings on the screen.”
Game of Thrones Oona Chaplin will portray Varang who is believed to have a “strong and lively central character” who will appear in the four sequels.
Marvel’s Marvel’sMichelle Yeoh has been added to in the movie as scientist Dr. Karina Mogue. We received our first glimpse of her scheduled in the month of March 2021. The caption said that she’ll be appearing in Avatar 3. and Avatar 3 as well which means that we should we can expect her to have an important role in the coming films.

Then, in April of 2022 Yeoh stated that in April 2022, she was unable to speak publicly concerning the sequel or her character however she was filled with high praise of Cameron.
“I was so impressed by the work [he’s] completed, the work is being done, and the enthusiasm. He’s a genius. He’s an artist in motion. I truly enjoyed the trip and cannot wait to go back very soon, I’m sure,” she enthused.
Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel has added another franchise to his resume and has joined the sequels with Jemaine Clement in the role of Marine Biologist Doctor Ian Garvin, described by Cameron as “one of my most loved characters”.
There was initial confusion over the inclusion in the film of Harry Potter‘s David Thewlis to the sequel. It appears that David Thewlis will be included in Avatar 3. (and 4 and 5) but not in the sequel.
Avatar 2 plot: What is the plot of Avatar The Way of Water about?
In conjunction with the title announcement we also got our first ever official synopsis of the sequel, however, it didn’t provide any information that was not already known:
“Jake Sully is a member of his new family that he has formed in the world of Pandora. When a threat familiar to Jake is back to finish what was begun, Jake must work with Neytiri and the Na’vi race to defend their home planet,” it reads.
Around 14 years after the Avatar events, around 14 years after the Avatar, Sully is now chieftain as well as Neytiri High Priestess for their clan, but the main focus will be focused on their children and their families..
“I believe that the plot in Avatar 2 and the strength of the narrative is exactly what Jim Cameron does in all of his films He writes with general themes which are more than any specific category,” director Jon Landau explained.
“And If you think about this, there’s a more universal theme like family. In the center of every film we make is the Sully family. What are the various dynamics parents must go through to protect their children?”
It is also known that, even though there will be three sequels following this one, each film can be considered a separate film with Landau declaring the following “the journey through the four films will result in an unconnected story”.
The mix will include returning to an RDA mine operation back to Pandora which will force Jake to transport and his children to the “perceived safe harbor” on the reef, where they will meet the Metkayina.
To fully capture the power of water’s importance, Avatar 2 recorded its motion-capture underwater scenes.
We also know that there’s been an individualized sign language developed specifically for the film created by the Baby Driver‘s CJ Jones, a deaf actor, who’s been hired to develop a “new Sign language for Na’vi”.
Regarding the film’s look, Cameron promises that they will be so sophisticated that they “just will not be able even to imagine” what they’re going to appear like. I hope the design is enough to lure viewers back to the theater to see the sequel.
“Big expensive, costly films are bound to earn an enormous amount of money. The world is changing post-COVID or post-streaming. Perhaps those [box office] numbers will never appear again. What do you think? It’s all just a huge chance to win,” admitted Cameron to a media channel.
At CinemaCon Cameron gushed about the experience on the big screen of the film. “[We’repushing the boundaries more with our high frame rate, greater resolution 3D and more real-world quality of our 3D visuals,” Cameron teased.
“I would like the return of Pandora to be truly unique. Each shot is created for the largest screen, highest resolution, and the most immersive 3D that is available. I believe we did it right.”
Avatar The Way of Water will be released in cinemas on December 16.
